A Shout Out to ExtremeSideslipping.com

Am I allowed to give a shout out to my own website from my own blog? Sure I am; it's my blog, right?

First of all, I can't take all the credit for extremesideslipping.com. This niche-snowboarding-humor website is in fact a collaborative effort between myself and Gregg Davis (greggdavis.com). It's a ridiculous site through-and-through, but (when I'm in the mood to write for it) I can't express enough how fun and satisfying it is after so many years of writing sappy PR gobble-de-gook from the perspective of what I though one organization's public wanted to hear. It is refreshingly amazing, now, to write irreverent, virtually nonsensical stuff. (Perhaps that is my calling after all, hah!)

Anyway, if the description--"irreverent virtually nonsensical stuff" is appealing to you, then check out extremesideslipping.com.

You will note that I have a button linking my writing site here to extremesideslipping: just scroll down and look for it on the right. It will help to appreciate the humor if you are an avid snowboarder, but there is an "about" page and a "FAQ" page for the rest of you flatlanders who want to give it a gander.

That all being said, it would be dishonest to paint only a rosy picture of my experiences writing and designing extremesideslipping.com. After a board tester from the recent Transworld Magazine snowboard test at Breckenridge commented "I don't find this site particularly entertaining," I'll admit I lost faith for a minute. After that I posted a video about "sideslip ballet" and I myself wasn't fully satisfied with its artistry. Finally, someone I don't know from graysontrays.com called it only "mildly amusing."

It's something crazy to stress--and I mean STRESS--over some dumb site dedicated to half-assed humor about a random snowboarding technique that nobody cares about. But I worried. "Is it funny enough?" I continue to ask myself. "Does it always have to be funny? Do people understand what the heck we're talking about? Is there enough sideslipping content to keep it going?" and so on...

Well, today was a good day for the writing, in any event. I completed the entry "Publicity Stunt Fails Due to Lack of Organization." As soon as Gregg finishes the video we are going live!
